Well, on Monday my daughter will be going back to in person learning at school. My wife and some other parents are concerned because Mardi Gras is coming up soon and people will probably have parties. If that is the case the virus will spread once again and cause us to go back to school at home again.
I am having an asthma flair up and I’m on prednisone again (twice in two weeks). I went to the doctor yesterday and I had to take another COVID-19 test which came back negative. But this time I had the test where they go deep into your nose for ten seconds each side. It made me cough and tear up.
On my daughters first day back from Christmas break they made the decision to go back to school online. So, she went to school Monday and Tuesday and from then on it will be school on the internet until further notice.
Kids need to be in school. This virtual school is leaving many kids behind. The risk to children is much less then it is for older people. My daughter needs in person learning to make the most of her education. This is hard on single parents and homes where both parents are working, and it needs to be corrected ASAP.
My wife converted the biggest of our closets into an office. She painted it and gave it a good cleaning. And it looks great. She couldn’t work any longer in the bedroom. I put a LED daylight lightbulb in there, so it’s nice and bright. It’s not completely finished. She needs to put up some shelves and needs a smaller chair. But she is happy to have her own space and not be stuck in the bedroom all day. I’ll add a pic of her in the office below.
Last week all three of us were tested for COVID-19. My wife and daughter, who had symptoms, came back positive. I was showing no symptoms and my test came back negative. So, I must quarantine for 14 days while my wife and daughter must only do it for 10 days. I must get retested if I start showing symptoms which to this day I have not. My daughter got better in a few days, but it is taking my wife longer to get over it. She is still coughing a bit and can’t taste or smell much at all.
I have been in close contact with both my wife and daughter but still have not developed any symptoms. I can’t figure out why. The doctors told me to keep my distance from them, but we don’t have a big house so it’s not possible. We are not drinking or eating after each other but that’s about it.
Because of my daughter’s positive test her whole school classroom must quarantine for 14 days. So, we are doing virtual school for two weeks. And I don’t think they will go back until after thanksgiving.
I will leave you with some pictures of our new puppy, Trixie.
So not one but two tropical systems are heading our way. The first one to arrive is Marco and will make landfall later tonight but the storm is weakening. It will be a depression when it hits. Laura on the other hand is expected to make her way into the gulf and strengthen into a hurricane. And right now, the forecast has it making landfall around Lake Charles late Wednesday early Thursday.
Because of the storms school has been canceled through Wednesday. It’s gotten a lot better but there are still times when it is incredibly stressful. I can only hope they will be able to go to school soon. But the reality is that the virus is still scaring a lot of people, sometimes including me.
School at home has started again. the first day was Thursday and it was rough. Friday went a bit better. I really wish the kids were able to go into their classes but it’s just not worth the risk at this point. However, I hope they will soon be able to return to in person learning.
On another note, I need surgery on my neck. I have three discs that need to come out because they are pushing on my spinal cord. Right now, the only symptom I have is a numb feeling when I turn my head. I had my nerves burned about a year ago, so that is saving me from being in pain.
School will be starting soon. We really don’t know how long school from home will continue. COVID-19 cases are still on the rise here. I wouldn’t be surprised if we go back to phase 1.
I have been having a pins and needles feeling going down my right arm. I had an MRI done and I am getting evaluated for surgery this coming Tuesday. I am leading to saying no if the doctor wants to operate on me. I don’t think he will but if he does, I will have a lot of questions about it.
So, our daughter will be starting first grade virtually at least until Labor Day. Kids need to be in school in person at least part time, in my opinion. But fear form the spread of the virus has caused this decision. Which I do understand but I don’t have to be happy about it, do I?
Well now as of today the entire state must wear masks when in public. Cases of the virus continue to rise in Louisiana and I now fear a new lockdown order is around the corner. Also, as of today bars are closed.
Since the mask order in my parish I have still seen a fair amount of people with no mask on. I really don’t know how they enforce this requirement.
In our area now we must wear a mask in all public places. That went into effect July 1. I have mixed feelings about a mandate to wear a mask. If I choose to wear a mask that’s one thing but to be told by a government to wear a mask…I just don’t know. Where does my freedom end? I do, in fact, choose to wear a mask in public but being told to do so makes me not want to wear a mask.
Cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Louisiana. Which is the reason our parish made it a crime to not wear a mask in public.
Well Louisiana will be stuck in phase 2 of reopening for another month because cases of COVID-19 are rising. The announcement was made a few days ago. I am just hoping another stay at home order will not happen.
We have a house guest this week. A nine-week-old puppy! He is a hand full and our dog is not too fond of him. But they leave each other alone for the most part.
