A Dog and the Eye of a Hurricane

A week ago, we adopted a new dog. Her name is Trixie. She is very sweet and a handful. She loves playing with us and running. More on Trixie in another post.

We got a direct hit from hurricane Zeta. The eye passed over us. I’ve always wanted to experience the eye of a hurricane but never thought I would. It lasted only a few moments, but I was able to go outside. There were light winds blowing and not too long before this I am sure we had winds of over 100 miles per hour. It was also misting. And then all the sudden the winds and rain picked back up. And back to winds over 100 miles per hour.

Of course, we lost power. And a power pole not too far from us was almost on the ground. So, it might be a while before we have power and internet again. We do have some damage but it’s not that bad and I don’t even know if it’s worth making a claim on our insurance.

Right now, we are at my in-laws. They lost power but have a generator. And I am very thankful to have limited power and internet.

And still God is good!

Hurricanes and Surgery

In person learning is supposed to be starting on Monday for my daughter. However, there is a tropical storm heading our way, due to hit here sometime on Tuesday. So, school might get canceled. How fitting is that?

A week from Monday I am having surgery on my neck. I have three discs that need to come out to relive pressure on my spinal cord. I am not looking forward to it, but it must be done. It will not get better on its own. I am experiencing pain in my butt when I walk. It’s a sharp pain. I hope it is related to my neck problem. One of my doctors told me a while ago that because of my neck I would one day have problems walking.

Well that is all for now.

Two Hurricanes!

So not one but two tropical systems are heading our way. The first one to arrive is Marco and will make landfall later tonight but the storm is weakening. It will be a depression when it hits. Laura on the other hand is expected to make her way into the gulf and strengthen into a hurricane. And right now, the forecast has it making landfall around Lake Charles late Wednesday early Thursday.

Because of the storms school has been canceled through Wednesday. It’s gotten a lot better but there are still times when it is incredibly stressful. I can only hope they will be able to go to school soon. But the reality is that the virus is still scaring a lot of people, sometimes including me.

God is good!

Yet Another Week Down

The tropical storm that came last week wasn’t too bad. We had some rain and wind, but it could have been worse. The rain on Wednesday was worse. The chicken coop got flooded and my wife had to bring the chickens into the house. I’ll post some pictures at the end of this post.

Some states are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. Well I say some, but I know of two that are having a spike in cases. I’m just hoping a second wave of cases does not happen.

The NHL, if all goes well, will be restarting at the end of July. I am looking forward to all sports starting back up. I just am hoping that they will be able to restart the season and complete it.

Well, that’s all for now.

God is good!

Phase 2 Starts

So now Louisiana is in phase 2 as of yesterday. So naturally we went out to eat to celebrate! We went to Applebee’s yesterday with a couple of friends and dined in. Of course, the tables where you could sit were spaced out. And the tables that they did not use were decorated a bit. All the servers still had to were masks, but we were not required to wear them.

My daughter’s swimming class has started up again. In fact, my wife and daughter are there now. I hope she has fun. It’s been many weeks since she had a swim lesson.

To add to the fun there is a tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico heading towards us. It could be here as soon as tomorrow. I don’t think it will be too bad, but I’ve been wrong in the past.

Well that is all for now.

God is good!
