My surgery went well. The spinal cord in my neck was so compressed they had to take out one of my bones in my neck. The surgery took four hours. I was told it would take one and a half at first. I woke up around 4pm, I think. When I woke up, I asked if my surgery had happened yet! They informed me it was all over. The only think I remember was being in the surgery waiting area. Which was where I was when I woke up, so I was just a bit confused.
I had to wait to past 10pm to get in a room! However, I was able to watch the Stanley Cup Final (on my phone in recovery) and the Lightning won too. So, I was in pain but amused! But my wife had to leave the hospital without seeing me because visitors are kicked out at 8pm! But since she was able to get my phone to me, we were able to FaceTime.
I was in the hospital for two nights. Both nights I didn’t sleep much because I could not get comfortable. Every position I laid in or sat in my neck was hurting.
When I came home on Wednesday, I was able to sit in my chair get comfortable and sleep! I felt so much better being home. I still have pain off and on. And my neck is limited in motion, but I am glad to be home!
I’ll post a picture of my incision. I don’t think it’s too gross!
The tropical storm that came last week wasn’t too bad. We had some rain and wind, but it could have been worse. The rain on Wednesday was worse. The chicken coop got flooded and my wife had to bring the chickens into the house. I’ll post some pictures at the end of this post.
Some states are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases. Well I say some, but I know of two that are having a spike in cases. I’m just hoping a second wave of cases does not happen.
The NHL, if all goes well, will be restarting at the end of July. I am looking forward to all sports starting back up. I just am hoping that they will be able to restart the season and complete it.
The past 24 hours have been eventful to say the least (in the sports world). First a NBA game was postponed then shortly after the NBA season was postponed to begin with today’s games. Then the Pelicans game was postponed because one of the refs worked a Utah Jazz game. And that is the team that has a player infected with COVID-19.
The NBA shares arenas with the NHL. And in some cases they share locker rooms. So today the NHL postponed the rest of the season. They still hope to award the Stanley Cup this season. I hope life turns back to normal ASAP. I hope this virus just dies out and goes away.
To be honest I don’t know what to make of all the events being canceled. I understand why all theses events are being canceled. But these decisions affect more than just the people involved in the event being canceled. For example, canceled sporting events cause people who work for the arena to lose out on an opportunity to make money. It’s possible that they only have one job and now it’s gone and they don’t know when they will get back to work.
Even in times like this, God is good!
Update: The NCAA has canceled all spring championship tournaments. This includes the men’s and women’s Final Four and Frozen Four. Major League Baseball has also canceled the rest of spring training and postponed opening day.
I am still here in Pittsburg and I just got back from a NHL game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins. For those of you who do not know I love hockey and my favorite team is Tampa Bay! We had great seats! I had so much fun with my father-in-law and brother-in-law. And to top it off Tampa Bay won 5-4 in a shoot out!
